About us/The story of VENDLET
H.C. Equipment was founded in 1985. But the story of VENDLET takes its beginning 2 years earlier in Aalborg.

Christian Buus had a daughter, who was spastic and therefore unable to reposition herself in bed. His wife got up several times during the night to turn her manually. As his daughter grew older and heavier, she became increasingly difficult to handle. His wife started suffering from strain in her arms and back. In an attempt to relieve his wife, Christian Buus invented the first VENDLET.

The solution was a great help to his family, and Christian Buus was therefore naturally inspired to pass on the idea to others. This was the starting signal for the company.

The first VENDLET was operated manually, as the bars were activated by means of a hand wheel. In co-operation with the Danish Technological Institute and with the help of his sons, Flemming Buus and Heine Buus, who respectively have backgrounds as electrical engineer and locksmith, Christian Buus designed the first electric turning aid. The result was patented and exhibited for the first time in 1985.

At the same time, VENDLET won the "Innovation of the Year" award sponsored by Muskelsvindfonden, the Danish Muscular Dystrophy Association. As something quite unique, VENDLET combines the protection of staff from ergonomic work injuries with increased patient comfort. Not only is the caregiver relieved of manual lifting and strain, the bed occupant is repositioned evenly and gently and thereby spared from pain due to rough handling - a dual function which attracted much attention.

The sons Heine Buus and Flemming Buus took over the business after their father in 1990, Heine Buus as manager, and Flemming Buus as technical director.

The first many years, Denmark was the primary market - and thanks to close co-operation with daily users and specialists in patient care, H.C. Equipment has been engaged in continuous product development.

Today, the markets also include Norway, Sweden, Holland and New Zealand.

Besides VENDLET in several models, H.C. Equipment also offers 2 newly developed products, namely OPLET and Sleep Tight.

The brothers Flemming Buus and Heine Buus sold H.C. Equipment ApS to Peter Maindal, who took over as Manager of the firm as of 10 June 2010.
